Jason,

Thanks for the info. One of these days I definitely plan to upgrade. I just couldn't swallow that pill on top of the already hefty price tag. Maybe once I've sold my Tower and my finances get back to normal.

Starting with the 500GB SATA drive will also let me better gauge my disk usage so I can know just what SSD to get. It's likely I'll need the bigger SSD and convert the SATA into an external FW800 — or possibly eSATA — drive to use as a video scratch drive.

I'm glad to hear that the SSDs actually do make a difference, though. Good to know!

I recently put a OCZ SSD in my 13" MBP and what a difference it makes. I put a 120GB in I still have 99GB left after loading CS4, Quark, Utilities, and standard appsoh and remove the 4GB sleep image. In your case I would have gotten the SSD and then got a Express card for data. I don't store much in the way of artwork files on my laptop as I do mostly onsite tech support and troubleshooting. Boot times are great. InDesign is slow to boot. EVen an initial boot on a SSD is a little slow, but the second one is very fast. Photoshop flies open.
